News on medicin pages in Danish equine passports

Within EU, new rules are now applied and all horses need medicin pages in their passports within a certain time frame. Read this to see how to get medicin pages in your Danish equine passport.

On 1 July 2009, Commission Regulation (EC) No. 504/2008 of 6 June 2008 entered into force. The Danish clarification of the regulation is still awaited, however, and so far it is clear that the following changes will be introduced for horses in organised breeding:

1. The horse passport must contain pages to be used for recording administration of medicinal products. Videncentret for Landbrug | Heste ( ~the Danish Agricultural Advisory Centre, Dept. Horses) has not previously had the authority to include medicine pages in passports, however, as from 1 July 2009, they have. Particular attention should be paid to horses that have to cross borders as the regulation applies throughout the EU.

2. The horse passport must be related to a mark on the horse. Valid types of marking: micro-chipping, hot branding (with digits) and freeze branding. A mark has not been registered for all horses in organised breeding. In connection with an update of the passport with medicine pages, the mark of the horse must therefore be registered.
